A. New Lost Sound Tapes releases

These fine cassettes are available now for purchase at http://lostsoundtapes.com/distro.php

+ Pangea "Pangea" tape +
11 tracks of wild, catchy, pop punk like only Pangea can do and they can do no wrong. The last song on the album even utilizes auto-tuned vocals, what?! They've transformed over the last couple years from playing soulful folk pop songs to blistering, charlie brown punk songs. This description sucks, this tape DOES NOT SUCK.

Okay, so anyways, Pangea are from the greater Los Angeles area and are part of the Griznar music collective which includes great bands like Harvest Moon Society and God Equals Genocide. Inspired by bay area pop punk bands, these songs will make you want to dance like an electrocuted squirrel.

First edition of 100 lemon yellow tapes with silver foil labels. Five dollars. Listen: http://myspace.com/togetherpangea

+ Antarctica Takes It "Constellations" tape +
Dylan McKeever writes magical pop songs with 60's swagger that are full of soul. His 'The Penguin League' topped many 2006 year end album lists. 'Constellations' has expanded upon the ideas of the first album while adding more male/female harmonies, tender ukulele ballads, and head first exuberance. Dylan is also a member of the band James Rabbit, whom Lost Sound Tapes has previously released on cassette, and receives some assistance from them on the album 'Constellations'.

The album cover features beautiful full color artwork by Maria Schoettler. First edition of 100 clear blue tapes with color labels. CD version available from the band via Bandcamp or HDIFTBL? Records in the U.K. Five dollars. Listen: http://antarcticatakesit.bandcamp.com

+ Andrew Mello/Weakness "Split" tape +
This tape is a split between Andrew Mello of Massachusetts and weakness of Ohio. Together they are some of the best 'one man bands' I've had the pleasure of listening to. On one side you have a full album by Andrew Mello entitled 'What I Say Isn't What I Mean' and on the flip side there's the entire debut album by weakness (including two bonus tracks).

Andrew Mello has often been compared to the Unicorns. He plays all the instruments and does all the recording/production. I often describe weakness as sounding like Weezer but with a lot more distortion.

1st edition of 100 copies, lavender colored cassette tapes, and artwork for both bands applied directly to the tape cases. VERY FEW LEFT! Listen: http://weakness.bandcamp.com or http://myspace.com/andrewmellomusic

+ Blanket Truth/Dana Jewell "Split" tape +
PRE-ORDER: THIS WILL SHIP DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER.
The highly anticipated, much delayed split release between folk poppers Blanket Truth (fronted by Jon Manning who runs Lost Sound Tapes) and Dana Jewell (who runs Wild Animal Kingdom Records) is finally here! The songs were recorded in mid/late 2009 and are now getting released September 2010. Some of these tracks are now old favorites for live crowds but may be brand new for people outside of the pacific northwest.

Blanket Truth conjures thoughts of Daniel Johnston or Herman Dune. while Dana Jewell could be described as a lighter-hearted version of Simon Joyner or less-baritone Calvin Johnson. Both groups find much inspiration in Jonathan Richman and have previously covered the song "Back In Your Life".

There was a soft release of the cassette in December of 2009 for a Blanket Truth west coast tour with a cover designed by Dana Jewell. The new, proper release of the tape contains completely different artwork, borrowed from a 1967 issue of Readers Digest. Edition of 150 clear blue tapes and black + white printed labels. Listen: http://myspace.com/blankettruth or http://hypem.com/search/dana+jewell

+ Dude Japan "Simple Living" tape +
PRE-ORDER: THIS WILL SHIP DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER.
Taken from the same sessions as the material found on the split 7 inch with Weed Hounds, Dude Japan is back with a six song ep called "Simple Living". Dude Japan continues to create their own blend of super melodic, buzzing guitar indie rock pop bliss culling influences from such bands as Velocity Girl, Superchunk, Further, Tiger Trap, and Built to Spill amongst others. "Simple Living" is chock full of toe tapping and head bopping goodness! This ep includes a Tiger Trap cover!

First edition of 100 clear blue tapes w/ blueprint-esque fold out covers and printed labels. Listen: http://roklokrecords.bandcamp.com/album/simple-living

+ World History "You Can't Stop Trying" tape +
PRE-ORDER: THIS WILL SHIP DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER.
Neil and Jamie have so much charm its ridiculous. This is their first full length album and they have really honed into their sound over the last 3 years. The "Nautical References" EP gives you a taste of what's to come and on "You Can't Stop Trying" they have gone all out! Wonderfully orchestrated songs with beautiful group sing alongs all brimming with hope. It's been an honor to watch the transformation and solidification of World History. The comparisons to Neutral Milk Hotel are not wrong at all.

The album was recorded by the Evan Hashi at Bellhead in Olympia WA and features guest appearances by Adam Oelsner (LAKE, Kickball) and Zach Burba (iji, Sandy City, Sundance Kids), and a whole bunch of other amazing people helped to sing many of the supporting vocals.

First edition of 100 solid red tapes, separate artwork from the CD version by Jamie Menzel, and stamped labels. Listen: http://worldhistory.bandcamp.com

TWO NEW TAPES, LOTS MORE ON THE WAY

Hey y'all, Lost Sound Tapes has more releases ready for ya! Sure, we haven't updated the blog in awhile, but that doesn't mean we don't have a full plate. I finally went back to school, moved into a new house, went on a Blanket Truth micro-tour, and plenty of other personal stuff you probably aren't interested in, ha.

----

Heres what you most likely ARE interested in...
Two new tapes! First update of the new year!
MATH THE BAND "DON'T WORRY" cassette and CAVE BABIES "GREEN" cassette.

Math The Band is a force to be reckoned with! Poppy, fun, dance tunes with lots and lots of analog synthesizer. Not to mention more BPM than any rational person would actually need. This duo puts on one of the most fun live shows this side of the Milky Way galaxy. This album takes a slightly more aggressive turn from their previous Atom And His Package-esque recordings and they are all the better for it. Think Andrew WK but cuter and just as much fun.
Visit http://www.lostsoundtapes.com/distro.php to purchase.
Album cover here: http://www.lostsoundtapes.com/images/dont_worry.jpg
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/maththeband

Cave Babies is the solo project of Mr Josh 'Hoshwa' Redman. One half of the brother/sister duo Watercolor Paintings, Hoshwa creates surprisingly delicate, yet fun, pop songs. These songs are about crushes and being crushed, truly honest and pure feelings. Chord organ, horns, and ukulele have never sounded as well as they do on this tape. It's been awhile in the making and Lost Sound Tapes is very glad to present this tape to you, it's a very special album. PS: The first 20 or so copies will receive a hand printed patch of Hoshwa's face, just like the tape cover but larger and no text.
Visit http://www.lostsoundtapes.com/distro.php to purchase.

----

There's also sad news. My tape duplicator is very sick and is dubbing tapes that sound very bad. I will be taking it in to a repair shop soon and I'm crossing my fingers that they can fix it. As soon as that is taken care of we will have new tapes from Blanket Truth/Dana Jewell , Andrew Mello/Weakness, Pangea and our second ukulele compilation "Ukulele, Mekulele, Wekulele". I will actually be getting the compilation duplicated by National Audio Company, so that should be done sooner than some of the other projects.

----

Since the last update we have some great "new" distro items:
Carrie Nations "Self Titled" 7" (Stankhouse Records)
Land Of Ill Earthquakes "Heartbreak Bombadier" cassette (Bridgetown Records)
The National Splits "Grab the Bottle and Run to the Hill" 7" (Bumblebear Records)
Premise Beach "Self Titled" cassette (Self Released)
Robert Church & The Holy Community "Los Tres De Canarias" cassette (Fox Pop Recording Co.)
Skylarkin "Antibodies EP" cassette (Witchita)
The Endless Bummer "Modern American Calypsos For Voice And Computer" cassette (Life's Blood)
Watercolor Paintings "Open Your Mouth" CD (Destructo Chard)
Visit http://www.lostsoundtapes.com/distro.php to purchase.

----
